It's so ridiculous that it's almost funny how many misconceptions there are concerning our southern border that can be disproven with even the slightest effort to research the subject. First of all, our president has made his best effort to paint the picture of our border with Mexico as "mass lawlessness", as an out of control farce that allows countless people to flow into this country illegally, and as a national emergency of sorts. By just scratching the surface on researching the matter I've found that nothing could be farther from the truth. What do you think our southern border is like? Do you think that it's just a vast swath of open land without any real structure? Do you think that simply having one massive wall is not only feasible but crucial to our national security? Well I can tell you that neither of those things are the case. Where there isn't naturally occurring border securities such as mountains and the Rio Grande, there are already thousands of miles of various fencing, walls, and checkpoints. If you think that we actually have "open borders" you couldn't be more wrong, no matter what the president may try to put into your head. Secondly, another huge matter that should be said is that the wall simply isn't feasible. Like I said before, in addition to the more than adequate man made border security that we have, there are natural formations that make up a large portion of our border with Mexico that a wall simply can't physically be built on. Not that I'm saying we "shouldn't" build a wall there, but that I'm saying it physically isn't possible. Another thing that should be said is that our president likes to paint democrats as the party of "open borders" when that also isn't the case. Like I said, we all ready have ample structures making up our border and I haven't heard a single person say that we should do anything like taking them down, which is good because we shouldn't. We need to have a secure border, that's just an objectively true statement. Good fences make good neighbors, and as of right now we have a good fence. However, when our president says that there are bad people trying to come into this country, as much as it irritates me to say it, he's not wrong, but to say that there isn't already a system in place to keep them out is just flat out incorrect. When Trump is talking about building a wall, even though he won't flat out say it, the fact of the matter is that his "wall" isn't about national security at all. It's about one thing and one thing only; his ego. Trump just wants to be able to have another large and gaudy structure that he can put his name on. He wants to be able to tout it as an accomplishment of his that, ineffective as it would be, would still be something that he could fall back on whenever anyone will inevitably say that he wasn't able to accomplish anything during his presidency. It's a monument to his fragile yet over bloated ego. Nothing more, and nothing less. The fact that so many people have been swindled by his rhetoric concerning the matter is deeply troubling. I'll admit that I'm not the worlds most knowledgeable person when it comes to the border, but it took me less than ten minutes to research the matter and come to the conclusions that I have. Too many people are either ignorant, or just plain too lazy to research for themselves and would rather take the words of their dear leader at face value and just be alright with that, which is a very serious problem. I don't know how else to educate people on the subject of the southern border but to simply ask them to take a few moments to research for themselves, but sadly for many people, that's just too much to ask.
