I'm going to try my best to be as objective and fair with this entry so just try to bear with me. I have never, nor probably ever will identify as a Republican. The GOP is just too ideologically opposed to my own views, but that's not to say that I necessarily "hate" them. I think members of the Republican Party genuinely do want to see this country succeed, but I think that the means they prescribe for achieving national success either simply don't work, or are founded on ideas that have been proven ineffective time and time again. I wont lie, there have been many republican presidents that I genuinely liked because they really did do very good things. Some of my favorites include; Theodore Roosevelt, Dwight D. Eisenhower, and of course, Abraham Lincoln. On that note, the history of the Republican party should also be mentioned. They started out as the party of Lincoln, the party of abolition, and the party that was hell bent on keeping the United States together, and I'll always have a sort of appreciation for them for that important historical role. However, at some point, as most people know, the Republican party shifted from being the party of freedom to being the party of big business, and that has shaped the path they have taken that led them to where they are today. I should make one thing clear; I would never call the entire republican party racist. I think that is an extremely harsh accusation that should never just be thrown around like it is so much today. However, it should be said that most modern hate groups are made up of people that tend to identify as conservatives. Again, I do not believe all republicans are racist, I can't stress that enough. Some of my most prominent role models, particularly my step father, are republicans and I believe they truly do want too see our country succeed. I have, however, lost a lot of faith in their capacity to contribute to that success seeing as they felt someone like Donald Trump was fit to be president. I still remember the first election I was able to vote in. It was between the incumbent, President Barack Obama, and Governor Mitt Romney. While I ended up voting for Obama, it wasn't an election that I was particularly worried over since, as much as I didn't particularly care for Governor Romney, in my eyes he was capable of being president, whereas in the 2016 election was between someone who had the qualifications, and someone who woefully didn't. At this point, I truly hope that some republicans will run against president Trump, because I believe that is the only way they can redeem themselves after this shameful administration. For instance, I would welcome with open arms a Romney administration right now. I think it says a lot that I want the Republican party to redeem itself, instead of completely falling apart. I want this because I still have faith that there are republicans who are genuinely good people that will continue to influence this country for the better just as Lincoln, Roosevelt, and Ike did. While I don't particularly care for republicans, I recognize that they are just as much of citizens of this country as I am, and their voices and views have just as much of a right to be heard.
