Common Sense

It never ceases to amaze me how some people can show such a prominent lack of basic common sense on some matters that seem like they would be a no brainer for anyone. Where do I see the most prominent lacking of common sense? Number one would be on the road. Driving seems like one of those things that everyone should be able to pick up without the slightest problem but as we all know that very much isn't the case. It's something that seems like it should be so simple but there are countless drivers out there that make the road not only a frustrating place, but a downright dangerous one as well. Number two would definitely be social interaction. I don't know what the cause of it is, but there are just so many people out there that don't know how to properly interact with other human beings. I just don't understand what's so hard about having common decency, manners, and just treating human beings like human fucking beings? It could be that some people feel they don't owe others respect, or that they just don't know how to give it in the first place, but it's definitely a problem either way. Third would have to be when it comes to hygiene. This one's particularly gross. What's so hard about bathing on a daily basis and just taking care of yourself in general? Our bodies require upkeep, that's common knowledge, and to allow yourself to fester away in your own filth isn't just unhealthy, it's socially repulsive. Ok, I need to get off my high horse now. I've raved and ranted about a lack of common sense displayed by others, but I'm a man that's throwing stones in a glass house. There have been many times in my life when I have shown a lack of basic common sense. I'm not perfect, I'm not a saint, and I've made mistakes, so I should definitely make an effort to be more understanding. During times when I've displayed a lack of common sense, I hadn't even really thought about what I was doing, and I assume that's most often the case when others make similar follies. When we fail to utilize basic common sense, I don't think it's a matter of laziness, or an absence of respect, rather I think it is more just a brief momentary lapse in understanding of our awareness of the world around us. While common sense isn't as widely utilized as many wish it would be, momentary lapses in judgement shouldn't be something we crucify people over. No body is perfect and we will all inevitably find ourselves in a position and time in which we falter. It's because of this that I've learned to forgive others for their mistakes, and have learned to make an honest effort to forgive myself when I'm in the same position. While common sense isn't as common as many people would like it to be, I think that understanding and forgiveness aren't nearly as common as they ideally should be either.
