With the recent news that Jimmy Carter is now the longest living president, I feel that he's a subject worth talking about. Unfortunately, Jimmy Carter is, more often than not, thought of as a less than stellar president. When he comes to mind, most people think about inflation, the energy crisis, and the Iran hostage situation. I believe that president Jimmy Carter is a truly good person but as a president he was a well intentioned man that was in over his head. It should be mentioned that when the 1980 election came around, instead of focusing on reelection, he famously was spending days in the rose garden doing everything he could to free the hostages. I don't like that Reagan is often given the credit for freeing the hostages because Carter did most of the leg work in that accomplishments. I hate when people list Carter as the worst president because anyone with even a basic knowledge of history knows damn well that he is quite far from the worst that we've ever had. Yes, as president Carter wasn't the best, but I'd say the case could be made that he is the best ex-president we've ever had. Post-presidency, Carter has dedicated his entire life to bettering the world. Even at 94 years old, he's still building homes for the homeless and participating in many other charitable works. I think his faith plays a large role in all the charity work he does. Carter is well known as a very religious man, and I think that he is by far the least hypocritical Christian I've ever had in this lifetime. Jimmy Carter is a truly spectacular man with a heart of gold. It's absolutely phenomenal to know that at his advanced age, he's still doing everything in his power to make the world a better place. If more people were like president Carter, I think the world would be a much kinder and happier place. Again, while he wasn't the best president, very few people would say that he's a bad person. He was in over his head, but it can't be denied that he did try his absolute hardest to do everything he could as president.
