I, like many other people I'm sure, have often binge watched television shows about forensic science. Though morbid as they may be, they're absolutely fascinating. How far forensic science has come is absolutely mind blowing. There was even a point in my life when I thought that was the career path I wanted to take. It should be said, however, that most of what we see on television shows such as "Forensic Files" or "Snapped" is a lot of Hollywood. I've learned from my own individual research that the field of forensic science isn't nearly as interesting or action packed as it is portrayed in popular culture. It's still very interesting though. Nowadays it's all but impossible to get away with murder or other such similar crimes because of how far the field of forensic science has come. They technology, the tests, and the analytic process is continuing to advance further and further each and every day. I'm a big fan of justice (obviously a good thing) and the idea that the vast majority of people who commit horrendous crimes are in fact brought to justice thanks to forensic science fills me with pride in society, and on the larger scale, humanity. There is no greater affront to justice than someone getting away with murder. I can think of nothing more disgusting than someone committing the most heinous of acts, getting away with their actions and being allowed to walk free. Forensic science does its absolute utmost to make sure that doesn't happen. Though it's not entirely perfect, and of course forensic scientists get it wrong from time to time, I think that overall, the study of crime scene investigations effectively serve their purpose of bringing criminals to justice. I know that as we get further and further into the future, the odds of being able to get away with atrocities such as murder will get slimmer and slimmer and that fills me with great hope and faith in our criminal justice system.
