This is going to be one of, if not the most consequential elections of my lifetime. Either we as a nation are going to choose someone that will take us off this self destructive and dangerous path, or we will yet again choose a president that routinely downgrades and humiliates our country on a seemingly daily basis. I can't be clear enough that I will never in a million years vote for Trump, so I've been making my best effort to get to know all of the potential democratic nominees, their platforms, their plans, and their backgrounds, so I can make an educated decision on who I want to take over the reigns of leading this country. As of right now, Bernie Sanders is who I'm backing. I just think that now that Hillary Clinton isn't in the mix, there is really very little chance that any of the other candidates will stand in his way of the democratic nomination. However, I don't view that as an adequate reason to just blow off all of the other potentials. A lot of the people besides Bernie that have formally announced their candidacy have quite a bit going for them. I think Elizabeth Warren is an incredibly smart individual who has a lot of great ideas, but my big thing with her is, first off; she doesn't seem like the type that really has the firs in their belly that will allow them to take on Trump. She gives me more of a professor vibe than a president. Cory Booker certainly does have that spitfire attitude that I can see as crucial to unseating Trump, but his voting record and support of big pharma is really concerning to me. Kamala Harris seems like a decent candidate and she's definitely someone I'm keeping a close eye on, but in order to win me over, she's really going to have to her utmost to stand out among a crowded field of candidates who share similar plans and ideas. Julian Castro is one candidate that, while he seems like he has potential, hasn't really done anything to stand out. All Tulsi Gabbard really has going for her is her military status in my opinion, and Pete Buttigieg is kind of the same way, besides being the first and only openly gay candidate. I think it's really cool that there is so much diversity in the democratic field, but I also think that it's going to take a lot more than a diverse group to unseat this disaster of a president that we have. I'm thinking about it this way; the last democratic president, Barack Obama, while yes he had the whole "first black president" thing going for him, also was an incredibly gifted speaker, political power house, and all together extremely charming and charismatic individual. He was a political force to be reckoned with, and as of right now, I'm not really seeing any candidate that is on that same level. Bernie is definitely close though. He has done a great thing by bringing issues such as wealth inequality, social injustice, action on climate change, and radical governmental reform into the forefront of the democratic field, and I'm glad to know that those subjects are going to be the cornerstone of the upcoming debates. I'm happy that he officially declared himself a democrat, as unhappy as that might have made some of his supporters. I think that was a smart strategic move since, as an independent he didn't have much of a chance, while as a member of a major political party, that's a very different story. I'm not going to lie, Bernie's age is concerning. I'm not sure if he's really got it in him to be a two term president, but obviously he believes he is physically fit enough since he is running, and I guess that's enough reassurance for me. No matter who the nominee is going to be, I'm probably going to be voting democrat again. I simply morally can't vote for Trump. He stands against all of the values that I hold dear to my heart, and he has made this country a worse place than it was when he took office. If you are reading this and still plan on voting for president Trump, I strongly urge you to listen to reason, to see him for what he really is, and do the right thing for yourself, your community, and your country by helping to remove him from his position. 2020 is going to be a big year for politics, that much I can say with absolute certainty.
