It's a nice thing to take a break from the seriousness of the world every once in a while. Comedy and comedic plays help us to do just that. Laughing doesn't just feel good, it's good for us. There are many benefits of laughter, both psychological and physiological. It's good for our hearts, and good for our souls respectively and literally. It's because of this that I view watching comedic plays as a form of self care. Like tragedies, comedic plays have also deeply ingrained themselves in my memory. I'll always remember seeing A Midsummer Night's Dream at the world famous Globe Theatre in London. It was such an amusing performance, and I truly enjoyed every minute of it. I especially loved how the actors would involve the audience, particularly with the mischievous antics of Puck. Life is sad sometimes, but it is also joyous at others, and it's important for us to remind ourselves of that. Things don't have to be all doom and gloom all the time. Life can be humorous, it can be downright chaotic and hilarious and it does us all a world of good to take time to enjoy and appreciate that. I don't just enjoy comedic plays, I enjoy a wide variety of comedy. Whether that be improv, stand up, sitcoms, etc. I really do enjoy relaxing and laughing for a while. When we allow ourselves to laugh, we allow ourselves to experience one of the purest, simplest, and most fundamental joys we can have in this life. Life is too short to be so serious all the time. Laugh, smile, live.
