Good

I think the vast majority of people in this world are good. I think that there is an innate sense of right and wrong within most of us. Obviously there are exceptions such as sociopaths but besides them I think we're all generally good people. In my own personal experience, doing good begets feeling good. I get a unique high after helping someone or doing an anonymous good deed that really can't be compared to anything else. That is altruism at it's finest; doing what's good for others and for society simply because you know it is the right thing to do. Some people do good deeds for prideful reasons however. They bring about goodness but they do it for the wrong reasons. I grapple with whether or not I feel that is ok, but I will admit that at least they are helping, motives aside. The world can be a cruel and challenging place, so it's especially imperative that we try to make it a better, more caring and understanding place during our time in it. There are so many small good acts that can make a world of difference in someone's day; smile at a stranger, hold the door for someone, pay it forward, it's little things like that that make this world a better place to live in for all of us. It's not always easy to spread good, in fact, often it's tempting to do the opposite because it is more convenient, but we must always remind ourselves that it's better to be a positive influence than a negative one. It doesn't have to be something as big as curing cancer, it can be a small act such as letting someone go ahead of you in line at the local grocery store, that can make a difference. All too often, I feel we think that we have to do amazingly significant things in order to be considered a good person, but we forget that the little things can be just as important, even if it doesn't feel like it at the time.
