I'm not entirely sure whether or not our fates are predetermined. It's entirely possible, but there is really no way to prove it one hundred percent. I think that there are some things that we are predetermined to do or to become. I believe that I was destined to become a writer, and I believe that I was destined to deal with issues concerning mental health as well as addiction. I know this because such conditions are very prevalent in my family, so it was, in a way, written into my very genetics. Sure I could have never experimented with substances, sure I could have never had to grapple with depression, and sure I could have not selected the path of a writer in life, yet here I am, writing, dealing with depression, and dealing with addiction. It may have seemed that I have chosen this path out of my own accord, but I can't deny that it's possible that this was always supposed to be the life I was predetermined to live. I think that things like genetics in particular, spell out a lot of struggles or strengths we will be destined to endure or display, respectively. However, I personally believe that we all have the potential within us to do amazing things with the lives we have been given. We all have it in us to make a significant impact on this world. Whether or not we choose to tap into that potential, however, is another matter entirely. Destiny is an interesting concept to dissect. The idea that our path in life has already been decided by some sort of higher cosmic authority is a double edged sword. By that, I mean we can either believe that we are destined for greatness, or we can resign ourselves to wallow in self pity from our misfortunes because we have come to believe that is just what our path in life is supposed to entail. Whether or not destiny is a real thing is irrelevant if you ask me, because I believe that we can all be masters of our own fate. We all have it in us to shape our own path and make what we can out of our lives whether we believe in destiny or not.
