Boredom can be a dangerous thing, especially in my case. When I'm bored, I get lost in my own thoughts and often fall back into very negative thinking patterns. When we're bored, we often times resort to unproductive activities. Whether those activities involve electronics, use of social media, music, etc., it's always an unproductive time for all of us. There is a fine line between being bored and lazy, and taking time for leisure and self care. Recently especially, I've gotten into the good habit of writing when I'm bored. After all, it's what I'm doing right now. Another thing I do to break the cycle of boredom is playing guitar. I've found that creating music is a good way to alleviate the ailment we know as boredom. When it comes to substance abuse especially, boredom can bring us back to such negative habits, which is why it's particularly important to find meaningful and constructive ways to relieve our boredom. We all get bored from time to time, but how we choose to combat that boredom is entirely up to us. I've found that for my self at least, boredom is a risky and dangerous thing, which is why I need to recognize when I'm bored and find productive ways to keep myself busy and distracted. Boredom can be a good thing if it motivates us to do something constructive. For me personally, the guilt of not having done anything throughout any given day is what drives me to fight such boredom. Conversely, I feel exceedingly good when I do something productive with my down time, I feel that I've made the most of my free time, and that's always a wonderful experience. Boredom is a part of life, and figuring out what to do with it is something that we as independent adults are required by our basest human nature to combat. If you're bored, I strongly suggest finding something to replace unproductive time wasting activities, as I have with this very website I'm writing on right now.
