Pets provide us with one of the simplest and purest forms of joy. They comfort us, they calm us, and they help us distance ourselves from the stress of everyday life, even though that detatchment might just be temporary. Pets love us in a way that other people can't. They love us unconditionally, and find so much joy in simply being in our presence. I feel that the reason for this is that pets lead much simpler lives than we do. They find joy in the simplest pleasures such as eating and play, which are activities that us human beings have come to take for granted. When I lived with my parents, we had three dogs, and anytime I was feeling down or stressed out, I would go into the den (the room where the dogs spent most of their time) and I remember how it made me feel when they would rush up to me. It made me truly happy just to know that these animals days were made simply by me opening the door and entering that room. Pets are a pure and simple source of happiness that we all too often take for granted. The therapeutic nature of animals has been proven time and time again. Petting something soft and furry helps us to feel better about ourselves and destress from thinking about the turmoil and chaos that is our daily life. Pets see us as their whole world. To them, we are the best thing in their lives and knowing that in turn, should fill us with a reciprocal amount of joy. I feel that there is a type of pet out there for everyone. Whether it be the conventional pets such as cats or dogs, goldfish or hamsters, or whether it be something less common such as reptiles, amphibians or insects. The type of pet or pets an individual has says a lot about them in my opinion. On the other hand, some people opt not to have any pets and that's perfectly alright as well. No matter what you do, having a pet or not, it can't be denied the positive impact that animals have on our lives.
