Yoga is a terrific way of getting in touch with yourself and giving yourself peace and a sense of physical and spiritual tranquility. I know that I personally should partake in yoga a lot more than I currently do. It's really the combination of the mindfulness and the physical activity that make yoga such a powerful and calming experience. Life is hectic, chaotic, stressful, and often times powerfully overwhelming. Yoga is a means of separating yourself from all of that and centering your attention on finding your inner strength and control. I think that for many people, yoga is a spiritual experience. It is a means of getting in touch with their higher power, or whatever they happen to believe in. For me, however, it is more of a self centered practice. Yoga is selfish, but that's not a bad thing in this context. Yoga is selfish because it is an activity that focuses on nurturing, bettering, and finding yourself. That's far from a bad thing. Life is a mess, it really is, and it will break us if we allow it to. If we don't take the time to step back from all the chaos and give ourselves a spiritual growth session from time to time, we will buckle beneath the weight that this world places on us. It's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when. Take care of yourself, body and mind. Yoga is the best means of doing that.
