I feel like every guy goes through a ska phase as a kid or teenager. I know that I definitely did. I loved, and on some level, still do love bands such as Goldfinger, Reel Big Fish, the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, and especially Streetlight Manifesto/Catch 22. It's just such a fun genre of music. I love the rhythm, the characteristic horn/brass aspect of it, and the catchy beats that every ska band seems to crank out. The ska genre is, at least from my understanding, many peoples guilty pleasure. It's thought of as somewhat childish, but the catchy riffs keep drawing us all back to it none the less. I particularly like the history of ska music. The way it formed out of a blend of Caribbean raggae and punk to turn into its own unique genre. I also love how it brought black and white people together due to its appeal to all races. It just goes to show that music has the amazing ability to make people forget their differences for a while and come together. That's definitely what ska does. It's a unique genre, that's for sure, and I know that I'll always love it, even if I don't play it when I'm around others. Keep on skanking all you fellow ska lovers, and do what you love no matter what others may think or say.
