This is something that never fails to capture our imagination. Stories of wizards and witches are peppered throughout the archives of history. Way back in ancient times, most people wholeheartedly believed in magic. They believed in spells, curses, charms, etc. and trusted the village druid, witch doctor, or shaman with treating/solving any problems the people may have been facing. As we've advanced scientifically and religiously, the belief in magic has lessened further and further but the love of it as basis for fiction is still as strong as ever. The wild popularity of J.K. Rowling's books just goes to show that we as a society are still obsessed with the concept of magic. I think it would be amazing if magic was real, but having grown up in an enlightened time, I know that that just isn't the case. However, that's not going to change the way that the concept of magic causes our imagination to run wild. Stage magic, while purely a bunch of parlor tricks and perception illusions is very enjoyable as well. Everyone knows that it isn't real, but we still enjoy it as a source of entertainment. I guess in some ways magic is real, but not in the literal sense. Still, that doesn't stop us from enjoying and appreciating the concept anyway.
