We're all a little insane in one way or another, I know I am. I struggle with the issues of mental health and addiction which at many times lead me to believe that I'm insane. Sanity and insanity are very subjective terms. What one person might consider to be insane, another person might consider perfectly normal. Addiction is insanity in my opinion. It is a condition that makes us into different people than who we would like to be. My addiction has made me do many things that go against my values and principles. The old saying "the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result." rings especially true in my case. Continuing to return to substance abuse while thinking each time that it will bring me contentment is my insanity. Once again I'll say it, we're all a little insane. Insanity doesn't necessarily mean being in a straight jacket in an asylum and screaming at the walls, it can mean any of the many conditions that we all struggle with on a day to day basis. In my opinion, insanity is an opportunity for us to learn about ourselves and grow into the successful people we all know that we have the potential to be. Recognizing insanity is the crucial first step towards us learning how to live our lives in a manner that benefits us in the long run. Knowing that at times we are perfect examples of imperfection, and that we are bound to be our own worst enemy is what we need to do in order to combat the insanity that we deal with. Even if you do view yourself as insane, it does us all good to tell ourselves that it isn't something that will cripple us as long as we know how to effectively manage our insanity.
