The only things I know about the United States army is what I've heard from my older brother and from a few friends I have that were in the service. I know that, like the other branches of the military, it is a path in life that requires intense discipline and fortitude. I've heard many horror stories about what boot camp is like, but I've also heard the consistent affirmation that what those who entered into the army have gotten structure, discipline and direction out of the experience, which is one of the reasons I've considered enlisting in the service. I'm leaning more towards the navy should I elect to enlist but I'm still keeping the army open as a possibility. One reason I wouldn't enter the army is that, given the global locations of my countries current military campaigns, it's much more likely that I would be deployed into an active combat zone. While I think that experience would certainly be life changing, I'm trying to think about whether that change would be positive or negative. I have the utmost respect for those individuals who put their lives on the line for their country. "All gave some, and some gave all" is a sobering and, at the same time, terrifying saying. The army requires bravery, that's for sure, and not everyone is cut out for it. I'm still trying to assess whether or not I'm one of those people that's cut out for military service.
