Many people tend to look upon the past through rose colored lenses. We all like to look back on certain events or times in our lives and get a warm fuzzy feeling. There's nothing intrinsically wrong with being sentimental, but I think we need to keep ourselves grounded and accurate when it comes to the good memories that a certain person, place, or thing evokes in us. I'm somewhat of a sentimental person, but not so much as to hoard objects, desperately trying to validate my life and derive my joy from. I like looking through old photo books and thinking fondly of the memories I have. I'm somewhat sentimental when it comes to my musical instruments, my clothes, and the various other objects I have that previously belonged to my father because, obviously, they remind me of, and make me feel closer to him. I think a lot of people are the same way if they're in the similar situation of having lost someone very close and dear to them. Again, there's nothing wrong with sentimentality, but if we focus too much on the past, we will fail to live in the present and work towards a better future for ourselves.
