All of the languages spoken throughout the world are interesting, unique, and definitely worth talking about. I remember reading the story of the tower of babel in the bible back in high school, and, while entirely a fictional folk tale, it is still an interesting theory as to why there are so many languages spoken all over the world. The story tells of how, at one point, all of humanity spoke one language, and while they were all able to communicate openly with each other they started to create a massive tower to show the glory of man. God saw this as a blasphemous challenge to his power and as punishment he divided all of the known speech into the many different languages that are now spoken today. Again, this is a fictional story, but it is still an interesting take none the less. I don't fluently speak any language besides English, but I do have a profound appreciation of the beauty and poetic natures of many foreign tongues. For example, the way romance languages flow and interchange words with one another is both fascinating and beautiful at the same time. I also love east Asian languages such as Japanese, Korean, and the various Chinese dialects for all their complexity and phonetic nature that I learned about back in college. I want to make it a personal goal for myself to master a language other than English, but I'm well aware that it's not going to be an easy task and will likely take a very long time to accomplish. I'm considering trying to master Spanish since it's the only language besides English that I do have some experience with from the various classes I took on it in high school and college. I would also like to try my hand at learning Fin ever since I did an extensive report on the language for one of my linguistics classes. Language is the glue that ties people and cultures together and provides individuals with a sense of identity and roots. I know that I in particular feel a sort of connection with my ancestors because I speak the same language that they spoke. I think it would do everyone a lot of good to make their best effort to master a language other than their native tongue, like so many people in, for example, Europe have done. Language has, does, and will always fascinate me, and I know that I will continue to learn about and enjoy the concept throughout the rest of my life.
