Both my father and my grandfather served in the United States Navy. Growing up, I thought that was the coolest thing in the world. I always listened intently whenever my grandfather would tell me stories of his time in the service. I've always loved the idea of being able to travel the world while at the same time doing a service for your country. As of right now, I'm strongly considering enlisting in the United States Navy. I'm not going to lie, I'm afraid that I might not be accepted due to my mental illness but I am hopeful since I believe that they are willing to give me a waiver after an in depth assessment. The reason I want to consider going into the Navy isn't just because I come from a line of sailors, it's also because I've always had a deep love of both my country and the sea. There's just something about that vast open blue canvas that fills me with a sense of wonder and freedom. The ocean is what this planet mostly consists of, so it's only natural that as human beings developed, we, very early on, created vessels in order to tame that great blue beast. I feel that in the navy, I would really find myself in a way that I couldn't anywhere else. Not only that, I've come to the conclusion that what I really need in my life is three things: structure, discipline, and direction, and I firmly believe that I would find those things in the armed forces, namely the Navy. While there's a good chance that should I attempt to enlist, I might not be admitted, but I think that it might be worth a shot, so that I can truly become the kind of man that I believe the navy could mold me into.
