The sheer amount of scientific, artistic, musical, and literary progress that was made throughout this period of European enlightenment is absolutely mind boggling. It's fascinating to learn of how Europe went from a dark, backwater part of the world, to a bustling hub of creativity and intelligence. The work of Leonardo Da Vinci is particularly astounding. Even though many of his inventions were impractical and many didn't even function properly, they are instantly recognizable to anyone who has even a remedial understanding of this period in history. I think it would be amazing to live through a period of such rapid societal advancement, and I guess, in a way, we're kind of going through a form of a renaissance right now. The age of information that we live in seems to be making many cultural and scientific advances, but in some ways we are also regressing so I don't know if it would be accurate to compare the age we currently live in to the Renaissance, but that's a good thing. We as human beings are instinctively driven to create. We are driven towards music, towards art, towards literature, and towards scientific discovery. That's just how we are. I'm happy to know that, while times may change, that never will, so we will inevitably go through more periods of rapid progress in the future.
