I definitely have a lot of vices, but thankfully gambling isn't one of them. Sure I've played card games, dice, and online games, but I just never got hooked on it. Through my most recent journey I've learned that addiction comes in many shapes and forms. I know that the part of the brain that is stimulated by gambling is the same part as someone who is addicted to drugs. They get a rush of adrenaline and euphoria, they get a thrill, and that rush is what they come to crave. I do know, however, that just because it isn't one of my vices, doesn't mean that it can't be life shattering for many others. I know of people who have lost everything because of gambling; money, cars, houses, everything. Gambling addictions are tragic, but like with any other form of addiction, there are resources available to combat the self destructive affliction. As an addict myself, I feel for those that are struggling with a gambling addiction because it's just another form of affliction that ruins peoples lives. If you are struggling, I pray that you make use of the resources available to you to get better. Negative aspects and addiction aside, there is a fun side to gambling. We all like playing games, and having higher stakes can make things more fun and interesting. The feeling of taking a risk and coming out on top make it well worth it for the many millions of gamblers throughout the world. Even though we will often lose when we gamble, that's what makes it all the better when we do win. Gambling can be fun, but it's important to remember that too much of anything is never a good thing.
