I love body art, I really do. I've gotten a few tattoos myself; a harp on my left shoulder and a raven on my right calf. I know some people get body art with specific meaning. Some people have them done to commemorate important events or individuals in their lives, some people get them to showcase what is dear to them, but just as well, some people have work done simply because they like the way that it looks and that's perfectly ok as well. It's really amazing how far tattoo technology has come. I remember seeing my grandfathers old navy tattoo when he was alive, and it was blotchy and faded (though I would never tell him this). Tattoos these days are sharper, more detailed, and hold up much better over time. It's also really interesting to learn about the historical roots of body art, such as the tribal patterns that various indigenous tribes had done in ancient times, all the way up to the tattoo culture we see in modern day sailors such as my grandfather. Each tattoo someone gets is a way that they express themselves and tell the world something about them. Being totally honest, I'll probably get more work done down the road. I have many ideas of designs that I would like to have done as well as additions to the tattoos that I already have. I'm still not entirely sure exactly what I'll be getting, but figuring that out is a huge part of the fun!
