It's always filled me with both fascination and pride in humanity when reading about the leaps and bounds that we as a society made during the civil rights movement in the 60's and onward. I feel like that generation was the one that finally tackled the issues that were so deeply ingrained in society and did their best to uproot those issues. There were pushes to advance racial equality, equality between the genders, and efforts made to advance the cause of sexual liberation. There can be many things said about generation X, but the most significant thing that can be said is that they were the generation that went through and drove forward a pivotal point in history and societal growth. Although a lot of progress was made during those days, we still have a long way to go. I think that, in a way, the civil rights movement is still ongoing and will continue to exist as long as bigotry and closed mindedness exist in our society.
