I'll admit that I haven't been sober for a very long time, but in the time I've been clean, I've come to realize a few things. First of all, my mood is much more stable. I have much fewer depressive episodes, I find that I'm less irritable, and my outlook is overall more positive. The second big thing I've achieved through sobriety is a stable sleep schedule. I can't stress enough how wonderful that has been. I'm well rested, I'm thinking more clearly, and I even feel like my physical health has improved. That actually ties into the third benefit of sobriety which is the improvement of my health in general. My alcohol abuse was taking a heavy toll on my body, and if I continued down that path, I know that I would have significant health complications. It wouldn't be a matter of if, it would be a matter of when. My life has improved little by little now that I've gone clean and I try to keep telling myself that this positivity will continue as long as I continue to put in the effort. Sobriety is a battle, but it's a battle that's worth fighting.
