One of the most crucial things needed for us to grow as a society is education. I can't begin to find the words to describe how important education is. It's not just necessary for society, it is necessary for each and every one of us as individuals. As a child, like most other kids, I didn't like going to school. However, as I grew up, I came to appreciate my education and value it as imperative to my growth and development as a person. It was around the middle of my high school career that my thinking on school changed from seeing it as a chore, to seeing it as a great opportunity and privilege that I see it as today. I truly do feel sorry for people who don't see education in the same way as I do. I feel bad for them largely because they are denying themselves the greatest opportunity to become more well rounded and intelligent individuals. So many of societies problems can be fixed with thorough education. Whether it be racism, intolerance, or simply a lack of knowledge, proper schooling will always drive society away from bigotry and towards enlightenment. I think that, in a perfect world, everyone would have the opportunity to receive college education. I know that my collegiate experience helped me to grow and develop into the insightful and well rounded person that I am today. Through education we find ourselves, and not only that, we come to have a better understanding of the world around us. No matter what degree or path you choose, the growth you achieve through a college education will serve you well and stay with you throughout your life. The only people who don't get anything out of education are those that don't allow themselves to be open to it. The saying "you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink" rings especially true when talking about this topic. If we truly want to grow and become more advanced than we previously were, we need to embrace the mentality that our education is a process that is ongoing throughout our lives. Every experience we have is part of our education, and realizing that is the best way to truly grow and be all that we can be. We need to remember that everything can be a learning experience.
