The type of serenity I feel when I'm lost in the beauty of the wild is incomparable to any other feeling I've experienced in my life. It's just something about being surrounded by the natural world that brings me closer to my primal roots as an animal that has evolved from living in the wild. Let's see, what are some of my favorite natural scenes? For one thing I love bodies of water. I find the image of smoothly flowing water never fails to bring me inner serenity if I'm ever feeling tumultuous. I also love forests, particularly the song of the woods. The mixture of birds, bugs, and other wild sounds is a cocktail that always intrigues and calms me. The view of sunlight peeking through the leaves and branches of trees gives me an uplifting and rejuvenating sensation like nothing else I've ever experienced. Open sky is another part of nature that I particularly enjoy. It just makes me feel so fresh and free to be surrounded by that wide open blue canvas. I should also touch on some of the negative aspects of nature as well since we all know there are absolutely parts of nature that instill fear, dread, and anguish in all of us. One of the best examples of this is storms. Storms are unique because if we aren't in the middle of them, many of us find them calming and amusing, but if we find ourselves in them while not at a safe place, they're nothing short of pure terror. I know I in particular used to be especially scared of storms because I experienced a particularly nasty one at a very young age. Nature is both beautiful and terrifying. It is awe inspiring and deadly, but above all, it is something that, try as we might to control, we will never fully be able to truly and wholly tame. Nature is just too powerful for us and that's what makes it so incredible.
