I've never had a taste for conspiracy theories. I've always thought they were only for people who, let's just say, weren't exactly mentally put together well. I think that the reason many people buy into conspiracy theories is that they don't want to believe that the world is as cut and dry as most people would make it out to be. In this entry I'm going to go over a few well known conspiracy theories, and give my input on what I think of them. Let's start with a huge one; the idea that 9/11 was an inside job. This is one that I find particularly offensive. The idea that our own government took down the twin towers, killing thousands, just to vamp up support for war in the middle east. Now, I'm not the biggest George W. Bush fan, but I would never believe that his administration would orchestrate such a heinous plot. 9/11 was the brain child of Osama Bin Laden, that's what I believe. Now on to the next one; the faking of the moon landing. The idea that the moon landing was faked in a studio somewhere is absolutely ludicrous to me. Not only is it insulting to the scientists and astronauts who dedicated themselves to the achievement, it's insulting to our whole country. There is so much evidence that it occurred and I simply find it ridiculous that some people think NASA went to all the trouble to simply stage it. One of the biggest theories among racist/anti-Semitic groups is the idea that the Jewish community is behind all of the worlds wars, as well as control the media and politics. This is the theory that I find most ridiculous of all. It comes as no surprise that this idea is only popular among bigoted fringe groups, but it still comes as a surprise that there are some people in the mainstream that either secretly or openly believe this concept. I know I made an entry about the flat earth concept before but I'll go into that a little bit anyway. This particular theory, I believe, is mostly for people who are just looking for attention. It's for people who just want to get a rise out of the vast majority of the population that doesn't reject scientific consensus. Conspiracy theories are for those with wildly overactive imaginations and those who prefer to remove themselves from the bounds of reality. While they are absurd, I do have to admit, they're entertaining. The idea that there are people out there with such outlandish beliefs makes me thankful that I don't buy into such ideas. It's not my place to tell people what to believe, but I can still say how ridiculous some of these people are.
