Alt Right

From what I can tell, the group known as the "Alt Right" is simply a repackaged, rebranded form of fascist extremism. The ideology that they're attempting to spread is nothing new. Racism, nativism, xenophobia, etc. are in no way new concepts but the biggest threat that alt right groups pose is that they do a good job of reframing these concepts in a more palatable fashion that is more likely to fool gullible and angry individuals into buying into those ideologies. I've read some of the literature and watched some of the videos put out by self described "alt righters" and they look present themselves in a very different fashion from your conventional everyday skin head or neo Nazi. A lot of them are buttoned up and appear professional and articulate which is extremely dangerous because that appearance is much more likely, and, to an extent, has succeeded in winning over and indoctrinating alienated individuals into their way of thinking. I've found that if you do even a little bit of digging into their presentations, you'll see it for what it is; white supremacism and bigotry. However for people who actually want to believe what they are seeing and hearing from this group, they are more than happy to be willfully ignorant and remain blind to what the movement truly is, which is deeply troubling. As dangerous as the ideology of the alt right is, it should be addressed that they don't have nearly the magnitude of influence on society that they'd like to think they do. The vast majority of the educated population of the world is able to see right through the facade and outright rejects their toxic philosophy. The alt right only attracts individuals who want to believe what they are spitting, which, in the grander scheme of society, is an extremely small niche. Now, that's not to say that they aren't dangerous, they truly are, but to act as though these extremists are representative of a significant portion of the population is just flat out inaccurate. Like I said in the entry before this one; the best way to counter a disgusting ideology is to fight it with the spreading of knowledge and enlightenment.
