Whether we realize it or not, we are constantly growing in one way or another. It could be professional growth, intellectual growth, spiritual growth, etc. But it's always happening whether we realize it or not. In my life I've found that, while sometimes it happens automatically, more often than not growth is a process you need to actively partake in. That could mean any number of things, but I think it mostly refers to instances where you have to force yourself out of your comfort zone and try something you've never done before. In this last year, I have taken some chances and, while some turned out well for me, others didn't. One particular opportunity, work related, turned out to be what looked like a fruitless endeavor but I grew from it nonetheless. Why did I grow from it? Because I learned from it. I learned many habits that are transferable to other parts of life and those habits made the experience worthwhile. I also took a chance with my romantic life this past year and asked out a woman who I had admired for quite a while and it ended up with the positive result of her feeling the same way and us still being together to this day. If you ask me, that's also a form of growth, but one in which two people help each other to grow not just as a couple, but as individuals as well. As of recently I've taken to the habit of taking inventory of my growth on a daily basis. I've gone over what I did differently, what I did effectively, and what didn't work out as well, and that has helped me better gauge my growth, not just as a professional, but as an individual person in general. Growth is a natural thing, but often times it requires us to take direct action to foster it.
