Yes, I know I've ranted about Trump before, but his most recent debacles have gotten me so riled up I just had to make another entry about him. It's difficult to put into words the severe degree of anger and humiliation I felt after watching the leaders of nations across the planet laugh out loud at the absurdity of our presidents ego as he made his usual boisterous claims at the UN. It infuriated me because it was such a strong reminder of how the rest of the world sees our president, and by association, us Americans. They see him as a clown, as a joke, and by extension they see America in the same negative light. I just can't understand how he remains so blind to the reality of what the vast majority of people in the world think of him. I think that he was in the mindset that he was speaking at another one of his campaign rallies, where he would be met with the typical blind adoration that he has become accustomed to, but instead he was dumbfounded at the laughter he got from the intelligent community of leaders of the world. I love my country, I really do, and it's because of that that it leaves me positively seething when I hear of our president, again and again, taking our reputation and throwing it straight in the toilet. I'm not going to lie, things seem pretty bleak when it comes to how our country is seen on the world stage. I'm not sure how, or if, we'll be able to regain the, more or less, respect that we once had as a nation. We have had some truly remarkable men hold the title of president; George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, JFK, and the Roosevelts just to name a few. We've also had some less than impressive individuals as president, but Trump has lowered the bar so spectacularly, even worse than Bush, that I don't think the world will take us seriously again for a very long time. Most people will say that W. was a sub par president, and I agree, but the big thing that makes Trump so much worse than him, in my opinion, is his wildly overinflated ego. As bad as Bush was, W. didn't seem to have that revolting trait. Bush was an idiot, yes, but at least he actually understood that he wasn't perfect, and even made fun of himself from time to time, which was oddly redeeming in a way. Trump, on the other hand, thinks he's Gods gift to the world, always has, and probably always will. He viciously lashes out at critics on social media because he is so blinded by his own ego that he thinks anyone criticizing him is just a hater, and he resorts to childishly ranting on twitter every time someone points out that he's doing a less than stellar job as president. Seeing the leaders of nations all over the world openly laugh at our boorish leader was humiliating, but I'm trying to put a positive spin on the train wreck by using it as motivation to do everything in my power as a US citizen to make sure that he doesn't get a second term to embarrass us further. I'm not only registered to vote, but I'm researching the many potential presidential candidates that could clean up our image and pick up the shambles of our nation when hurricane Trump has moved on, much like Barack Obama did after the Bush presidency. I've found many people who I believe could do the job, but many of them have made it clear that their not interested in stepping up, which is very discouraging. However, I'm not going to lose hope. I have faith that my country will produce someone to redeem us, even if I haven't found them, or if they haven't answered the call yet. God willing, we only have to deal with this shamefulness for another two years.
