Sooner or later all of our chickens come home to roost. For every action, there is a reaction that is inevitable. Whether it be paying off debt, or accepting punishment for our misdeeds, consequences are a part of life. Nobody likes paying their dues, but it's a necessary evil. Nobody is perfect, but that isn't an excuse to shirk your responsibilities. It's not a nice feeling, that pit you get in your stomach when you know that you've been caught doing something that you weren't supposed to be doing. Maybe you thought you wouldn't be caught, or maybe you thought it was a victimless crime but nevertheless there are times when we all find ourselves in the wrong. Tempting as it is to get away without consequences after doing something wrong, I think that the guilt that we might feel in those situations is a consequence in and of itself. There is an upside to facing the music and that is the uplifting feeling of making things right. Looking back on situations where you were in the wrong while being able to confidently say that you had made things right is an amazing feeling and, in most cases in my opinion, sometimes worth the hardship leading up to it. Sooner or later we will all find ourselves in the wrong. We are imperfect human beings who are bound to give in to our lesser desires and for that it is sometimes necessary to accept and power through the punishments that will occur therein. How we choose to deal with these consequences is a different matter entirely. Some will go out of their way to find ways around paying their debts, others on the other hand, will admit guilt without restraint and will accept their consequences with grace. Although the former is quite tempting, the latter, in my experience, is the only one that will leave you able to sleep better at night. Consequences are an unfortunate part of life, but what you gain from them and how you choose to let them help you grow is entirely up to the individual.
