Brotherhood isn't simply a bond of blood. It's something you can share with anyone once you've built up enough of a bond to the point that you can say you're closer to them than you are with most of the other people you may consider simply acquaintances. Brotherhood is a sense of comradery that is quite rare in the world we live in. It's a bond that's thicker than blood. A brother is someone whom you would go above and beyond to be there for, not only in good times, but in times of adversity as well. A brother is someone that you can confide in and know that they will treat what you share with them as a gift of trust from one person to another. A brother is someone that will drop everything and come running at a moments notice when they know that you need them. A brother is someone that you know you could trust your life and all that you hold dear with. We all would like to think that we have many friends and for many that is true. However there are a select few people in our lives that we could say we share enough of a bond with to consider them our brother. Brotherhood is rare, but it is a treasured concept that does exist. Friends come and go, but those that we consider to be as close as or even closer than family will always be there for us. I can't say that I have many people in my life that I would consider worthy of that title but there are a few. I have friends that I have grown up with and still maintain a close bond with. I have friends that I would go well out of my way to be there for and I know they would do the same for me. I constantly remind myself to never take such bonds for granted. Like any relationship, these bonds aren't simple or easy to maintain. These bonds require effort and like all other bonds, will be tested from time to time. All families fight but when push comes to shove, they will put their squabbles aside to be there for someone that is just that important to them. Brotherhood is rare, so it needs to be said that when you have it, you show constant gratitude for those bonds that you're so fortunate to have. I know that I remind myself every day to be thankful for those in my life that I consider to be family, blood or not.
