Anger is something that everyone has to deal with from time to time. It's just an unfortunate part of life. How much we have and how we choose to deal with it, however, varies greatly. Some people choose to outwardly express it, which most often will feel good, but tends to be socially unacceptable. No matter how badly we would like to scream to the sky or break everything around us, that's just not something that's deemed to be acceptable behavior for adults. Children throw tantrums, and that's just because they lack the inhibitions that adults have developed. Openly losing your temper comes with many social, professional and personal ramifications. On the other hand, many people choose to neither outwardly express, or channel their anger in to a more constructive form. They opt to bottle up their feelings and repress them. Doing this also has many repercussions, just different kinds. This method of coping only lasts for so long. After repressing anger for a set amount of time, it's bound to come out sooner or later, and the longer you hold it in, the more tumultuous that outburst will be. I think it's okay to express anger from time to time, it just needs to be done in a more constructive fashion. Some people channel their anger into their work, some express it through their art or music. Hell, some people just scream into a pillow every now and then and that's perfectly fine. Anger is baggage, and the sooner we get it off our chest, the sooner that weight will be lifted. However, it's important to remember that there is a time and place for it. Losing your cool at the office or in the classroom will without a doubt come with obvious consequences. Taking out aggression on those that just happen to be around you isn't acceptable either. Just because you're having a bad day, that doesn't give you the right to take it out on others, much as you'd like to. Holding it in isn't healthy either because if you just hold onto that rage and let it fester, it's going to eat you up inside and, in severe cases, even comes with health risks. It all comes down to how you choose to deal with it. Each of us have things to be angry about and that's the important thing to remember. It's not just you.
