The fact that there are so many people perpetuating this archaic idea absolutely blows my mind. I'd like to think that most of the people who are pushing this idea are simply doing it for the attention. I want to believe that they are just trying to be so outrageous with their ideas that other people will be just so dumbfounded at the ridiculousness that they'll have to stop and pay attention to these people. Most of them are just trying to be contrarians. However, the unfortunate fact is that there most likely are a handful of people who actually whole heartedly believe this theory to be the truth. These people must be either complete idiots, or simply have their heads in the sand by ignoring the insurmountable amounts of scientific data proving the idea to be fundamentally and completely incorrect. Unfortunately, no matter how much evidence some people are shown, they will continue to cling on to their beliefs out of pure stubbornness and nothing will change their minds. In my opinion, this is pretty irrelevant. Besides the blatant spreading of misinformation, there aren't really any dire consequences of people pushing this idea so I don't actually think it's that big of a deal. As long as it doesn't do actual concrete harm to society I don't really care. People can believe what they want. I myself, however, am a man of science and I choose to see the world through proven data and facts. I choose to understand that the earth is a globe based on the insurmountable data that confirms this. The earth is round; that is a fact. Plain and simple. I don't want to waste my time arguing this fact with idiots that are just looking to get a rise out of the vast majority of people who choose to believe scientific evidence.
