It absolutely infuriates me that this is actually being debated in this country. On certain issues, denying science is just an annoyance but on this issue it's down right dangerous and destructive. There are insurmountable amounts of data proving that we are having a devastating effect on this planet and that's just not up for debate. The amounts of CO2 in the atmosphere shot up drastically with the advent of the industrial revolution, and failing to connect the dots there is fundamentally idiotic. We are killing this planet, plain and simple. However, even though there is a clear consensus among the scientific community that we are behind the drastic rise in temperature, simply acknowledging that isn't enough. I understand that there are measures being taken to curb climate change but in my opinion there isn't enough being done. The biggest problem is that there are so many detractors that are hindering progress. Whether it be in government or simply individual people that have their heads in the sand and refuse to look at the facts. There are very short sighted people in very high places and that needs to end. Even the president of the united states is a sceptic, and in my opinion, that alone should have disqualified him from the job. Taking concrete action to curb climate change shouldn't be avoided for the sake of business. Businesses will adapt and grow just as they always have, and curbing climate change, although it will hamper some companies in the short run, is ultimately what needs to be done. The earth isn't here for us to exploit. It's out home and it needs to be taken care of for future generations. The most important thing I believe is that we are at a crossroads in time. We can either take action, or continue down the destructive path that we're on. I have many colleagues that I've met, whether it be through school, activism, or other places, that not only understand that the earth is being affected, but are doing their part to make a substantial change and those people are the reason that I'm hanging on to hope. It's not too late to change, we just need to come together and take a stand against the short sighted and selfish. It's not too late to open the eyes of sceptics and help them to get out of the way of progress. We just need to be staunch, vigilant and keep doing everything we can to make sure that the planet lives on for future generations. It's not easy, but it's necessary to do anything and everything that we can to put up the best fight that we can. We've only got one planet and one chance to make sure that it lives on.
