I don't know for sure whether God exists or not, but truth be told, I hope he does. It would be comforting to know that there is a force out there looking out for each and every one of us. It would be comforting to know that everything we go through is all part of some superior beings infinite plan. Scientifically speaking, it can't be proven that God exists, but it also can't be proven that he doesn't. I think that if God does exist, it's on a separate plane of existence that we as imperfect human beings can't comprehend. I think God is an intensely complex concept, so we use the image of a bearded man in the sky to simplify it for the vast majority of us who can't wrap our heads around such an abstract idea. I think that God means something different to everyone. To some he might be a cruel and chaotic force responsible for all the hardships in their lives. To others God might be a loving parent who just wants the best for their children. To me, God is a beautiful and hopeful mystery. I don't necessarily think of God as a being. I think of God as the driving force behind everything in the universe. I think of God as the answer to the why, while science is the answer to the how. Because of this I think it's completely possible for someone to be both a person of faith and a person of science. Too many people confuse themselves by limiting themselves to being one or the other. While I'm not a very religious person, I do believe in trying my best to follow my conscience and be as good of a person as I can be. When I stop everything and ask myself why this is the case, the big question of "why" comes to mind. I wonder what drives us to do good in the world, what's the point if there isn't a reason that we do what we do? I believe that God is the reason that we are driven to do what we do. We can argue all day and night about what we think God is, and whether or not God exists but one thing that can be said for certain is that even though we are basically a spec in the grand scheme of the universe, we exist and there must be a reason for that. I don't think humanity in and of itself is simply just a random occurrence on this tiny blue marble we call earth. I think that there is a reason for everything but whether or not that might be God can't be said for certain. There are so many people on this planet whose belief in God is the key driving factor behind everything that they do and I think that, in a sense, that makes God real, at least to them. I think that even though the concept of God is different to everyone, it can't be ruled out completely. Another question I've pondered over a lot is that if God is the loving parent that so many believe it to be, why is there evil and hardships in the world? Why do we go through pain and suffering? The answer to that, in my opinion, is pretty simple; how would we know what is good without experiencing what is bad? How would we truly be able to experience pleasure if we don't first endure pain to provide perspective? Good and evil are two sides of the same coin, they compliment each other and I think that if that's part of Gods plan then so be it. I'll take the good with the bad in life, that's infinitely more preferable to a vast sea of neutrality. Do I believe that there is an all powerful and all loving being that is the reason behind everything that is? Well, I hope there is, because that's more comforting than believing that there's no reason behind everything. Human kind is such a random and chance occurrence that seems to have come out of nowhere, that being said, I'd like to think that there's a God out there watching over us intently and seeing where this grand experiment goes. Does God exist? Who knows, but I hope so.
