There's nothing wrong with having a positive self image. It helps you have confidence in your endeavors and keeps your spirits up when things might not be going so well. Though it can debated where exactly it is, there is definitely a line between having a healthy ego, and having one that is overinflated. In my opinion that line is crossed when we cease to simply have a positive view of ourselves, and start to grow a superiority complex. Someone with an overinflated ego will often see themselves not as just a good person, but as a better person than others. What caliber of a person we are is entirely subjective, and that gives the concept of ego a very important purpose; to help us look at ourselves and and be proud of the positive aspects of our personality and our accomplishments. A downside of having too big of an ego is that you are especially susceptible to come down on yourself hard if it is ever cut down. I think that from time to time, we all need our egos to be reigned in. If anything but for the purpose of maintaining a grounded and realistic understanding of both our potential and our limitations. Yes it hurts to be cut down from time to time, but we need it to keep ourselves in check. There's nothing wrong with being brought down to reality if we ever find ourselves having a bit of an overinflated self image. Like I said, there's nothing wrong with liking yourself but we need to learn how to maintain a positive self image while at the same time being

realistic about what we see when we look in the mirror.
